Public Statement: In Memory of Mr. Davey Bobbish

The First Nations Bank of Canada mourns the passing of Mr. Davey Bobbish, a cherished member of our Board of Directors and a deeply respected Executive Director of the Cree Nation Government and the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee).

As Executive Director, Davey oversaw the administration of ten departments serving Cree communities across the region. His role placed him at the heart of Cree governance—liaising between the Board and management, leading key negotiations at federal and provincial levels, and ensuring that the Cree Nation Government’s long-term plans were rooted in self-determination and collective progress.

Over nearly three decades of public service, Davey also served as Chief Accountant, Director of Finance & Administration, Treasurer, and Chief of the Cree Nation of Chisasibi (2012–2020). He was instrumental in establishing the Cree Development Corporation (CDC), an entity created by the James Bay and Northern Quebec agreement to create opportunities for businesses, resource development and industry in the Eeyou Istchee.

Since joining FNBC’s Board in April 2024, Davey brought wisdom, humility, and an unwavering commitment to Indigenous economic empowerment. His insight and leadership strengthened our mission and inspired all of us at the Bank.

On behalf of the entire FNBC community, we extend our deepest condolences to Davey’s wife, their children, grandchildren, extended family, and to the people of Chisasibi and Eeyou Istchee.

Davey Bobbish’s legacy of service, integrity, and vision will continue to guide and inspire our work for years to come.
